I recently read this with my two older teenagers and they were pleasantly surprised at how much they enjoyed it! Hawthorne’s masterpiece, you can clearly see his disillusionment with Puritanism while telling an amazing story. Hester Prynne, Puritan woman, has had a baby out of wedlock and refuses to name the father. To shame her into confession, she is forced to sew a a scarlet letter “A” onto her dress to wear at all times. What do Reverend Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth have to do with the situation? Is there anyone who can help Hester and her daughter, Pearl?
